The Foundation

From the roots of Greyston Bakery and its open hiring policy, a larger mission developed to support low-income individuals and their families. Greyston Foundation was created to help individuals forge a path to self-sufficiency. Today, Greyston Foundation has become a national model for comprehensive community development. Recognized as a pioneer in social enterprise, Greyston uses entrepreneurship to solve the problems of the inner city and reduce reliance on external funding sources.

The Foundation offers an integrated network of not-for-profit and for-profit companies in Yonkers, NY providing jobs, workforce development, affordable housing, youth services, and health care.

Affordable Housing
Buildings are one of a community’s key assets; their state of repair or decay is an indicator of the economic vitality of the neighborhood and its population. In the last ten years, the Greyston Foundation has successfully developed $48,597,735 of real estate projects in Westchester County, and has another $25,000,000 of projects underway.

Health & Family Services
Greyston supports a functional and affirmative lifestyle within a structured healing community by providing supportive housing and a combination of conventional and alternative health care to persons living with HIV/AIDS. Greyston Health Services addresses the special needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS and believes that healing is a complex process in which the body, heart, mind and spirit all need to be addressed in order to be effective.

Workforce Development
Greyston is committed to training and providing job skills to the ‘hard-to-employ’ population of southwest Yonkers. Using the Greyston Bakery as a model, Greyston provides job-training and supportive services to several different “hard-to-employ” populations. The goal of workforce development is to provide individuals with transferable skills to further their goals towards living productive and satisfying lives.

Child and Youth Services
Since 1991, Greyston has strived to provide high-quality child and youth services to the low-income population we serve. Today, Greyston offers a nationally accredited Child Care Center and after-school programs, helping families move towards self-sufficiency by providing safe environments for their children while parents work. One of the most pressing needs in Yonkers is after-school programming to fill the gaps left by the public school system.
